Hey...just a heads up. Design firm Wolfgang & Hite has debuted a saucy line of pleasure products based on buildings in New York City's new $25 billion Hudson Yards complex, including ribbed butt plugs and dildos with clitoral stimulators all in a bubblegum pink hue.
The collection is intended as a "critique of both the skyscrapers’ design and the proliferation of glitzy, high-end developments throughout the city," according to Curbed. The design of Hudson Yards has been subject to backlash since its 2008 introduction. Famed architecture critic Ada Louise Huxtable complained in the Wall Street Journal that its skyscrapers looked "in profile, alarmingly like sex toys.” And The New York Times has published a feature titled, "Hudson Yards Is Manhattan’s Biggest, Newest, Slickest Gated Community. Is This the Neighborhood New York Deserves?"
In a tongue-in-cheek interview, Wolfgang & Hite told Dezeen magazine: “The city and developers have been jerking each other off for decades, so naturally we wanted to join in the fun. Masturbation is a great metaphor for the latest wave of development in New York City.”
Dubbed "XXX-HY," the prototype line of toys (sadly, not yet available for purchase) includes the below butt plug version of Thomas Heatherwick's pinecone-like "Vessel," the city's hottest backdrop for Instagram influencers. ELLE.com included it on our list of "30 Places To Instagram in 2019."
Wolfgang & Hite also created a dildo based on the 15 Hudson Yards skyscraper designed by DSR.
And two “magnum” dildos mimicking 10 and 30 Hudson Yards, home to the Coach offices and Warner Media headquarters.
According to Curbed, there’s also a Vessel-shaped Diva Cup coming soon. Love to have something to look forward to.
