Teeny tiny bags were the biggest things to come out of the fall/winter 2019 Paris Fashion Week circuit, thanks to Jacquemus' now-famous Le Chiquito purses. But if Nina Ricci has its way, the latest cult-fave accessory just might be a literal bucket worn as a hat or bag—you choose.
On Friday, Nina Ricci presented its womenswear spring/summer 2020 collection in Paris. Among the looks were organza dresses and jumpsuits, floral blazers and puffy-shouldered blouses in neutral hues. Snakeskin prints mingled among pastel hues like lavender, baby pink, canary and more.
The exaggerated collars, voluminous silhouettes and cut-out boots were enough to captivate you. But then, models walked down the runway with oversized buckets—yes, actual buckets—resting on top of their heads, reminiscent of the ones you pack for a trip to the beach. In keeping with the playful aesthetic the hat/bags came in bright colors, from yellow to orange to blue—any one of which will definitely earn you a few Instagram cool points.
In other looks, the accessory was carried as a handbag.
Nina Ricci's Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh kept the playground theme strong throughout the collection, debuting oversized sunglasses, bubble gum ball earrings and a belt with large learning-block letters that spelled out Ricci.
To anyone asking "Really? An actual bucket for a hat?" I say, hear me out: A bucket is great multi-tasker—providing sun protection without messing up your hair too much and also great for carrying just about anything whether its sand for building castles, or your beloved houseplant. Summer 2019 may be over but Nina Ricci already has your beach day 2020 look handled.
