When you think of Hermès your mind probably goes to a few things first: classic shapes, rich materials, an overall bourgeois air. Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski’s collection for fall was slightly different, cooler and edgier (or as edgy as one can get with Hermès)—an unexpected move for the historic house.
The show opened with two head-to-toe black looks, plus a few other ones that featured leather hot pants (a piece that's seemingly becoming a trend for the season). Teamed with the Constance bags and small fanny packs it would seem that Vanhee-Cybulski is eager to push the house forward in spirit, while maintaining the sharp design codes on which it was built.
Buttery leather tops, jackets, skirts, and pant suits anchored the collection, but it was a real treat to see scarf prints fashioned into interestingly-shaped blouses and dresses. Towards the end of the show Vanhee-Cybulski really pushed things with oversize parkas in khaki and black and a navy flight suit. With this collection she will manage to attract and speak to new clients, while also offering core customers their must-haves of the season, a wise move for a house in the midst of change.
