Taylor Swift's first romance after her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn has come to an end. TMZ reports that per a “friend close to the situation,” Swift and Matty Healy have broken up. The friend described Swift as “single” and offered no insight into who broke up with whom and why.
A source gave Entertainment Tonight more detail, saying, “Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realized they're not really compatible with each other. Taylor's friends want what's best for her and aren't shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship.”
TMZ noted that Swift and Healy were last seen together on May 25. Over the weekend, Healy, the frontman of The 1975, made headlines for kissing a security guard during the group's Denmark concert, perhaps a hint that his and Swift's love story had already ended.
The last update on Swift and Healy's relationship was published by Us Weekly on May 29. The outlet's source painted things as going incredibly well between the two musicians, despite fans' concerns about Healy's various controversies.
The source said, “Taylor has been spending much more time with Matty lately and she’s getting to like him the more she gets to know him. Although they briefly dated in the past, it was so long ago, so she feels like she’s learning new things about him all over again.”
“It’s so refreshing, and she’s happier than she’s been in a long time,” the source continued. “Things between them are fairly new, so it’s hard to tell if they’ll go the distance. But he makes Taylor really happy, and she wants to be with him whenever she has the chance.”
That said, when Swift and Healy initially started dating, a source told Us that Swift had been hesitant about dating again after her and Alwyn's split in March. The source said on May 8, She “isn’t sure [she’s] ready to commit [to something] so soon.”
On April 20, a source told Us that Swift was genuinely enjoying being single. She's “adjusting to the single life,“ the source said, adding she did not plan to get into a serious relationship imminently. “She isn’t dating anybody and isn’t even thinking about getting into another relationship anytime soon.” Healy seems to have just changed things briefly.
